THE CYCLE OF THIRDS (First family) PART 2
USING THE CYCLE OF THIRD IN CHORD SUBSTITUTION.
If we analyze adjacent chords, we see that they have common elements.
For example
Cm9 = C, Eb, G, Bb, D (Cm7 extended to include D) can be replaced by
EbMaj7.
EbMaj7 = Eb, G, Bb, D (same elements minus one note).
To go further
Cm11 = C, Eb, G, Bb, D, F (Cm7 extended to include D and F) can be replaced
by EbMaj7, EbMaj9 or Gm7.
Gm7 = G, Bb, D, F
and so on.
It is a fun concept when composing. YOU HAVE THE CHOICE.
Look in THE ART OF CHORDS dictionary for the different positions available
and try to calculate substitute chords for other root notes than C.
